The clock has been designed for use by the
blind and sighted people. It has no glass cover and the face and hands have
an uneven surface. It is also equipped with an alarm function. The alarm button
is placed on the front; in other words it is placed on the same plane as the
clock face but an angle of 15 degrees from the horizontal plane. The warmth
and roundness which characterizes the material, plastic, is far more reassuring
to the blind than the sharp and cold texture of metal. Provision of such products
which not only guarantee profit to the industry but also cater to the needs
of the consumer is a major responsibility of the industrial designer. It is
very important for the designer to try, as these examples, to widen the target
user; in other words, to widen the concept of human beings, and so to design
products which cover the needs of this wider market.
